Projects

The Funding Line Language Education in the Immigrant Society

In addition to the meta-project, ten individual and joint projects have been launched in the research cooperation Language Education in the Immigrant Society. Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), they deal with research questions on language education from the elementary level to adult education throughout Germany.

The majority of the projects can be assigned to the elementary and primary level. Some projects deal with both areas, others focus on one of the two areas. However, individual projects also address the secondary level and the area of vocational education. And one of the projects even includes three areas of education in its work. Transitions between educational stages play a central role in various projects.

Individual multilingualism is considered in all projects, for example as a learning prerequisite of the pupils that needs to be recorded as a research variable or in the development of materials. In some projects, the multilingualism of the learners is even a core issue, so that it plays a substantial role in all project phases, from development and data collection to the evaluation and interpretation of the results.

Several projects are planning interventions in which the impact of concepts or similar is assessed. In addition, half of the projects are concerned with the implementation of concepts or measures in the classroom and their success. One project also focuses on the learner's perspective on teaching or language education. Working with and developing digital media also plays a central role in various projects.
