Interview study on the conditions for successful transfer in language education

Since the 1970s, Germany promotes model programs and projects to improve the educational situation of children and adolescents with a migrant background. As early as the 1980s, scientific evaluation attested to the success of such projects. However, a sustainable dissemination of the successful measures in educational practice has only been realized to a limited extent, which contributes to the observation of a persistent "cultural lag" between research and practice in language education. Against this backdrop, the meta-project partners in Hamburg and Cologne prepare an interview study collaboratively that investigates the reasons for the unsatisfactory transfer between educational research and practice. The aim is to interview actors from educational policy, administration, practice and the interested public who were or still are involved in funded projects and related research in various functions. The perspectives of these experts should provide answers to the question of which characteristics of the intended transfer processes or the contexts into which they were transferred are (partly) responsible for the success or failure in the educational practice. Further, we seek to identify conditions under which transfer can succeed better in the future. The interviews are scheduled for 2024.
